Here are the voices of women who lived through most of the twentieth century - teachers, beauticians, seamstresses, domestic workers and farming folk - unfold with the raw honesty of people who have waited for a long time to finally speak their mind. The poems move with the narrative force of stories long repeated but told with fresh emotion each time, with the lyrical depth of a blues threnody or a negro spiritual, and with the flame and shock of a prophet forced to speak the hardest truths.

5Do not pass this up.  Apr 06, 2006 By Ashley Hamm "Soon to be USC Graduate"
I have had the privilege of having Kwame Dawes as my academic advisor at the University of South Carolina. USC is now in the midst of the Spring Writers Festival, and Dr. Dawes read some selections from Wisteria at last night's session. To hear him read these poems, to hear him sing and tell the stories behind the poems, those who inspired this work, was a truly unforgettable experience. The poetry itself is breathtaking; attending his reading was an added bonus. Do yourself a favor and add Wisteria to your collection.

4Gift well appreciated  Apr 20, 2009 By William J. Carter
Didn't actually read the text myself but the person for whom it was purchased who knows the work of the author was very appreciative of the gift.
