But there is one leap of faith Taylor can't bring himself to make: he can't fall in love. For all his adult years, Taylor has sought out women who need to be rescued, women he leaves as soon as their crisis is over and the relationship starts to become truly intimate. When a raging storm hits his small Southern town, single mother Denise Holton's car skids off the road. The young mom is with her four-year-old son, Kyle, a boy with severe learning disabilities and for whom she has sacrificed everything. Taylor McAden finds her unconscious and bleeding, but does not find Kyle. When Denise wakes, the chilling truth becomes clear to both of them: Kyle is gone. During the search for Kyle, the connection between Taylor and Denise takes root. Taylor doesn't know that this rescue will be different from all the others, demanding far more than raw physical courage. It will lead him to the possibility of his own rescue from a life lived without love and will require him to open doors to his past that were slammed shut by pain. This rescue will dare him to live life to the fullest by daring to love. | | | |

Wonderful... Jun 19, 2010 I love the story...I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan and his stories are true to the heart...I work in education and this book hit home... for a mother to give up everything to stay home and fight for her child and finally finding true love...another wonderful story...I couldn't put it down...the fear of not being able to find your child and not knowing what is wrong with him, but never giving up...A very good read...
Romantic Trash Talker Fuels Fire Jun 13, 2010 Always, Nicholas Sparks has something to say. And he always has a point to make. He's set on getting his target shot through the heart with romance, in the midst of setting up a conflict to make it that more interesting. So what separates Sparks from other contemporary authors that tell love stories? I'd be willing to say that Sparks always loves to get some good trash talking into the game, yet knowing there is the time to be serious. "The Rescue" is no different, but Nicholas Sparks decides to add some fuel to this fire.
When we join Taylor McAden, he's the man of the hour when it comes to saving lives. He proves that by finding little Kyle Holton, putting his mom, Denise at ease. And upon thanking Taylor, Denise gets interested in this hometown hero, who seems to have no reservations about putting his life on the line when danger calls. She also finds herself hoping that she can find out the missing piece to Taylor. What is it about his life that's none of her business, why she can't learn what haunts this man that melts her little boy's heart.
You can put all your energy into one-night-stands, and even make them last for quite some time. But this tells of the possibility of loving somebody forever. To give a crap about something or somebody else besides yourself just might have some meaning. So, once again, Sparks allows the trash talking to say what it has to say. And then he puts them back in his bag of words, and allows what matters most to ring through in the end. I can go back to reading authors like that pretty easily. And that's the end of the story. Can't wait for the next one!
"The Resuce" is an awesome story... Jun 12, 2010 This is great love story to read, and I recommend this book to every person out there who enjoys reading romance stories. It tells about a tragic story, a mother and son, who get into an accident at the beginning of the story. Denise, mother of Kyle who has trouble with his speech and doesn't know to much vocabulary, is found by Taylor the volunteer firefighter, after found in the woods after he headed into the woods from the broken window where he sat in his or what I would call booster seat.
After he is found, Taylor meets up with Denise and the after time they start falling in love. It seems that the son enjoys Taylor's company and calls him "daddy" later in the story and Taylor realizes that he isn't he "daddy".
In the story, Taylor loses Mitch, a friend, in a fire they fought in a warehouse and Mitch was the only person to not come out alive from the fire.
Go out and buy this book.
So Good! Mar 04, 2010 The book starts with Kyle, a missing four year old that has limited language skills and understanding. After a car wreck where his mother, Denise Holten is knocked unconscious, has has wandered off to somewhere in the nearby swamp. With the toughness of finding the son who does not answer when called, the story gets off to an amazing start. Sparks is able to turn his characters into people we learn to love. He grants us insight into the very hard trials and tribulations of a mother faced with what appears to be an impossible task, the love and strength of heart of a little boy and Taylor who steps in and is eventually saved from himself.
I rate this a 5 because of the way the story progresses and how sparks is able to capture his readers by the first 75 pages of the novel. Once I got around there, I couldn't put the book down. Its a great book if you are looking for an nice romance to read!
Love and Loss Mar 03, 2010 As many of Sparks books again here is a single mother and a lonely guy. There is heartache and spell binding love.
Although it follows many of the same basic story line of his other books I was pleased that the author had not fallen into the same old routine. It isn't just a nother duplicate of the same story line with different names.
The way Sparks introduces the main charecters is refreshing. I was able to feel the emotions from the pages and it gripped me and held me there in the moment. Another excellent read by Nicholas Sparks.
