Every September, on the first night of the new moon, there are those who vow they see a flaming ship sail three times past the coast of Ocracoke. No matter the direction or velocity of the wind, this fiery vessel moves swiftly toward the northeast, they say, always accompanied by an eerie wailing sound. This story of this ship is but one of the colorful legends intrinsic to the charm of North Carolinas historic coastland." The spine is tight and straight. Approximate size, 5.25 x 7.75. A great book with some interesting and enjoyable stories! 11BC1 | | | |

An Excellent Storyteller Jul 09, 2000
By Tom Charles Harry Whedbee captures the attention of the reader in the very beginning of this book as any good storyteller can. From swashbuckling pirate tales of Blackbeard on Ocracoke Island to stories of lost loves or any Native American tales and legends on the Outer Banks, Mr. Whedbee does a spectacular job of pulling you out of the present day and time to the time of the story. It is my recommendation that if you love legends and ghost stories, you should get this book!

My husband and I love the Outer Banks and have really enjoyed all of the books by Mr. Whedbee. While we do enjoy the stories, we are also learning a lot about the history of the area, and it is fascinating. These stories are good for all ages.
